CURRICULUM AT A GLANCE Primarily using ABeka
3 year olds: Our reading program is phonics-based. The students are taught all of the letters of the alphabet and the phonetic sounds that those letters represent. 4&5 year olds: Besides learning the letters and phonetic sounds, we also teach the students how to read short words and sentences. We begin reading groups in the spring.
Each week a different letter will be featured. Writing is structured for students to learn how to write their name, hold pencil properly, recognize lower case and capital letters, and focus on basic penmenship. 3 year olds: Concentrate in simple letter recognition and tracing. 4 & 5 year olds: Further concentration in tracing and writing independently with proper formation.
3 year olds: We teach number recognition and counting for the numbers 1-15 at a minimum. Some students learn to count to 50 and beyond. We also teach basic shapes, sorting, colors and the calendar. 4 year olds: Learn number recognition and counting for numbers 1-50 at a minimum. Some students count to 100 and beyond. We also continue to teach basic shapes, sorting, and calendar memorizing days/months.
We teach 20 minute Bible lessons each day which includes Bible memorization, singing, story/application, and prayer. Lessons focus on the major Bible characters and stories, such as Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Daniel, the Life of Christ, the Apostle Paul, etc. Lessons may include crafts and projects. Students will memorize one to two verses a month.
We are committed to developing godliness of character and action in the lives of the students entrusted to our care. We teach and encourage students to practice honesty, kindness, thankfulness, obedience, cooperation, patience, attentiveness, and respect.
